Abbie – 3 year old black Labrador – Hip Dysplasia
Abbie was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia at 8 months old with restricted mobility; she was noticeably limping and in great discomfort and taking large doses of pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs.
As a result of the hydrotherapy and treatment at the Canine Academy she was able to build up enough muscle to prevent the limping and control the pain. She is now 3 years old and leads a normal happy Labrador life.
Dudley – 11 year old Retriever – Spinal problems
Dudley suddenly became unable to use his back legs; this lead to a spinal operation which resulted in severe muscle wastage and further paralysis of his back legs. Having to walk aided with a sling, Dudley started hydrotherapy, within a matter of weeks his muscle definition improved significantly and was walking and attempting to run unaided. He has since made a remarkable recovery and gained a new lease of life as a result of his hydrotherapy treatment.
Wallace – 2 year old Leonberger
Wallace had pan-osteitis as a puppy which caused a lot of discomfort and lameness. He also had mild hip dysplasia. Following a course of hydrotherapy Wallace’s muscle bulk has increased and his exercise tolerance is now normal. He has no lameness and absolutely loves the swimming so much that he now comes just for fun!
Zak – 4 year old Labrador – Cruciate ligaments
Zak underwent surgery to repair his cruciate ligament in his back leg; this resulted in him not being able to walk on the leg or bare any weight. His exercise was restricted to 5 minute lead walks. Following hydrotherapy he was soon able to start using the leg again and build up his exercise routine. Without the muscle build-up treatment his recovery time would have been much slower; he still loves to come for a swim.
Ellie – 10 year Cross Breed - Arthritis
Ellie had become noticeably stiff and lame when diagnosed with arthritis and was referred for hydrotherapy at the Canine Academy. Since then the frequency of lameness and stiff joints has decreased and she is able to go for longer walks and is a much happier dog with improved quality of life. The hydrotherapy is helping to control the arthritis and spa and massage eases the strain on her joints. This is an ongoing condition which will be controlled by regular hydrotherapy visits.
Quincy – 4 year old Rough Collie – Overweight
Quincy started hydrotherapy to help lose weight. He is an active agility dog but was unable to keep the weight down. As a result of the hydrotherapy Quincy has lost weight and been able to maintain this condition. As a result of Quincy’s success, his owners have started swimming their 3 other agility dogs to help maintain their weight and fitness levels.
Monty – 4 year old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
When Monty’s owners started bringing their other dog Merlin for hydrotherapy to heal a muscle sprain, Monty took a keen interest in the pool and spa. Monty absolutely loves the hydrotherapy and comes just for fun; chasing toys up and down the pool.
Max – 4 year old Chocolate Labrador
Max started limping and was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia; this resulted in very restricted short walks. Following a few sessions of hydrotherapy Max is going for long walks off the lead and leading a normal active life with a much improved condition and quality of life.
